Sustainability

Run 4 Wales (R4W) is passionate about protecting the beautiful countryside we’re running in so we can all continue enjoying it for years to come.

With a socially responsible business model at our core, R4W has a duty to deliver ambitiously green, sustainable and low impact events, including Rabbit Run Wales.

Some of the ways we’re looking to achieve this at Rabbit Run Wales include:

Removing free finishers t-shirts from the event. This not only plays a huge part in helping to reduce plastic waste but also eliminates any chance of the garments ending up in landfill.

Rewarding finishers with an FSC approved wooden medal. The FSC believes that healthy forests are a key defence against the climate and biodiversity crises. The wood that is used to make the medals comes from forests that are managed responsibly and sustainably, so there’s no net loss of forest over time.

Encouraging runners to be self-sufficient with water in our 40K race. This helps reduce plastic waste across the event. Runners should bring their own water vessels to refill at the outposts along the route.

Minimal signage. While the 12K distance will reuse its signage to mark the course from previous years, the new 40K route is self-navigational. Runners are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the route and download the GPS file onto their smart watch if they have one.

Responsible procurement. Run 4 Wales works with local suppliers where possible who abide by good practices.

Recycling. Run 4 Wales is committed to achieving a high recycling rate of 90% or above across its portfolio of events.

Encouraging donations to the Run 4 Wales Climate Action Fund. The R4W Climate Action Fund was set up to balance the impact that hosting events has on the environment – granting funds to projects that support nature conservation, carbon reduction and climate adaptation.

We are committed to reducing our environmental impact as an integral part of our business strategy and we commit to a 2030 net zero carbon emissions reduction target with the aim of being a climate positive events company by 2040.

With over 50,000 participants taking part across R4W’s event programme each year, we recognise the important role we have in shaping the environmental behaviours of our participants; as well as the importance of minimising our environmental impact and setting an example in cutting plastics, minimising waste and avoiding unsustainable materials and business practices.

Would you like to work with us on our sustainability journey? We’d love to hear from you.
